Chapter 9 Summary

Chapter 9 brings the start of the school year for the town of Corrigan. Charlie hears the gossip of Laura being talked about for hours, Jasper Jones is nowhere to be found and Jeffrey Lu has become a minor celebrity. Warwick Trent is also back in school because he didn't get an apprenticeship and because he is the father of a classmate's child and has no other options. Because Warwick is back in school, Charlie finds himself walking to Jack Lionel's house after school the first day with a large crowd following him.

Charlie made a bet with Warwick Trent that if Charlie can go onto Jack Lionel's property and return with more than four peaches he will be granted immunity for the whole year. Since Charlie knows that he can easily do this, he agreed to be put through a cruel punishment if...
