Chapter 5 Summary

Chapter 5 begins with Jasper Jones returning to Charlie's house however Charlie immediately begins thinking about what's happened in the week since he helped Jasper hide Laura's body. Charlie says that another draft went out in Corrigan and that the children of Corrigan were allowed again to play in the streets. He notes, however, that doors and windows were locked tight at night.

Charlie talks about a twilight town meeting that the police arranged in order to tell everyone what they knew. It turns out that they know virtually nothing and they urged people to come forward if they had any information about her disappearance. At that moment, Charlie feels completely alone and trapped in the town and by the people.
