Chapters 36 - 39 Summary and Analysis

The travelers scream and pray and clutch onto each other as the peach plummets toward the earth. They are surprised, then, when they hear a giant squelch and realize that the peach has landed squarely on the top needle of the Empire State Building. They have survived their fall from the sky. Everyone who had been hiding in their houses and the underground shelters slowly begin to make their way back out into the streets and are amazed at what they see: a giant peach pierced by the pinnacle of the Empire State Building!
