Chapter 20 Summary

Joseph is a Catholic and Louise comments that it is easier to be married to a Catholic than a Methodist. Louise's parents attend her wedding at the Truitt schoolhouse. Louise's father dies shortly after she gets married. Caroline calls from New York and tells Louise that her and Call are going to Rass to stay through the funeral. Louise cannot go to Rass because she is nine months pregnant. Joseph goes to Rass in her place. Louise's mother is the last Bradshaw on Rass Island. Caroline invites her mother to New York to see her perform after the funeral. Joseph comes back to Truitt four days before his child is born. He has learned midwifery to deliver the child himself. Louise and Joseph have a son that Louise names Truitt after her father,.....
