Chapter 17 Summary

Call and Caroline are getting married in New York the day before Christmas. The ceremony is held in the chapel at Julliard. Louise's parents attend, but she stays home to take care of her grandmother. While Louise takes care of her grandmother, she feels like a parent taking care of a child. Louise's grandmother asks her about how the Captain is doing and she reveals the reason why she dislikes him. When she was young, she was in love with him. She waited for him to return for two years, but he never did. She tells Louise that she wants to see him now. Louise suggests inviting him for Christmas dinner. At dinner, Louise's grandmother brings up the story of the day the Captain cut the mast off his boat and the Captain.....
