Chapter 12 Summary

The Captain lives with the Bradshaws for three days. Louise still feels uncomfortable around him. Her grandmother is aware that Louise has been watching the Captain and says that she is in danger of hell fire. After obsessing over the Captain's hands, Louise studies her own hands and realizes that they are not very feminine. The Captain finds out that the orange tomcat survived the storm. The cat is not wild anymore. The storm has broken its spirit. The Captain goes to Crisfield to visit Auntie Braxton in the hospital. He asks to stay at her place until she returns. He takes the orange tomcat with him to Braxton's house.
