Chapter 10 Summary
What Louise refers to as the "storm of '42," is described in Chapter 10. The people of Rass are aware that a storm is coming. The watermen can smell an oncoming storm. Caroline now accompanies Louise and Call on their visits to the Captain. The three children help Hiram prepare his house for the storm. Louise's father also assists the Captain and asks if he would like to stay at the Bradshaw house during the storm, but Hiram declines. As the storm worsens during the night, Louise's father wakes her and tells her to go get the Captain. Louise and the Captain fight through the vicious storm to get back to the Bradshaw house. At the Bradshaw house, Louise's mother is making coffee while her grandmother prays. In the meantime, Caroline sleeps through the storm, undisturbed.
