Chapters 12-14 Summary

The last Christmas before her accident, Shannon went home. Instead of buying large, expensive presents, Shannon and her parents agreed to stick to stocking stuffers only. Shannon begins to pull the gifts out of her stocking and discovers that her parents gave her many boxes of condoms in order to encourage her to be careful not to suffer her brother's fate. As Shannon pulls these boxes out of her stocking, her parents lecture her on sexually transmitted diseases and lists the types and consequences of the various infections and diseases she could contract through sexual intercourse. Shannon is horrified, but even more shocked to see that Shane's stocking also includes gifts. Inside his stocking, Shannon discovers that her parents have bought a membership to P.F.L.A.G.: Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.
