Summary

Chapter 29

Tris is taken to see Jeanine. She soon learns that the plan is for Jeanine to study her brain and then to have her executed. Tris undergoes an MRI. The results are surprising. Tris’ prefrontal cortex is larger than any the technician has seen. She lacks the part of the brain in which one does things in order to receive a reward. The technician and Jeanine talk about how the change in the brain will require an alteration of the serum.

Tris is taken back to her cell. She sees a bloodied Tobias and begins to sob. Tris asks Peter for help but he refuses.

Chapter 30

Tris sits in her cell and cries.

Tris is taken to another room where she is injected with a memory serum. She is riding the bus with her mother. Tris fights against the serum and blows...
