Chapter 4 Summary

Frank fills the reader in on his journey to the real estate business. Two years after his divorce, in a period of major crisis, Frank quit his job at a large sports magazine in New York and moved to Florida for no apparent reason that he can discern. Following that move, he took off for France - again for no apparent reason - leaving his children behind. His friend, Dr. Catherine Flaherty, 23 and not yet a doctor at that point, had flown to Paris to be with him during his time of crisis. They quickly grew bored of each other due largely to the age difference, and Frank began to realize that his dreamlike existence with Catherine in France prevented him from actually living the second half of his life. They parted.....
