The footsteps get closer. Sam thinks about Tom and being in a foxhole. It is Emmett. He says he had a hunch she would be here and he saw her car. Emmett swears at her for scaring him. He was afraid she had killed herself. Emmett tells her that it is childish to run off into the woods to get revenge. It is also very typical. Sam asks him what he thought of the diary and he says he could not sleep after he read it. Sam says she hates her father because he liked killing. Emmett grabs her and shakes her. He screams that no veteran is happy about what happened. Sam begs Emmett to tell her more about his experiences. He tells her a story about being shot at.....
