Part 2: Chapter 28 Summary

Sam goes to the mall to read the notebook. His diary recounts his war experiences. Some entries detail the mundane aspects of his daily routine. However, other passages talk about seeing buddies die, rotting corpses, and the joy of finally killing Vietcong soldiers. Sam feels sick after reading the diary. She is "humiliated and disgusted." She realizes Emmett may have also killed people, but it seems hard to comprehend. Sam considers forgetting her father and dismissing his entire family. Sam does not know how she can face.....
