Part 2: Chapter 26 Summary

Lonnie comes home from his trip. He tells Sam he wants to learn how to fix cameras and that he could open up a repair shop. Sam is not impressed with this goal. They talk about Emmett and Sam says she is starting to see why Irene left. Without warning, Sam breaks up with Lonnie. They talk a little more. He is happy for Dawn and her boyfriend. Sam tells him she thinks the situation is "cruddy" because Dawn is going to be stuck like Irene, raising a kid in Hopewell. She says she wants to do something different with her life. Lonnie calls her weird. He says she reads too many war books and watches too much television. Lonnie takes her home and tells her he is not returning her.....
