Part 2: Chapter 23 Summary

Irene takes them out to eat in Paducah. It was a place her husband would take her when they were dating. Sam thinks about how everything has changed since she used to sit with Irene and Emmett and watch television. Irene says the restaurant has "the best" barbecued ribs, but Sam is angry and says, "I thought you liked pit barbecue."

After dinner, Irene drives them to a field she has always loved because she thinks it looks like pictures of England. She says she always wanted to go to England but does not think she will ever get the chance.
