G. visits Pa to spend some time with the old man before leaving for his teaching position in Trinidad. Pa tells G. that Ma would never believe all the changes in the village including the new careers of G. and his friends. Since the war, even the landscape of the village is different with the dismantling of the railroad and the loss of all the area trees. The landlord had sold all the timber and the rumors of his leaving again are circulating, but Pa does not believe that the landlord will ever leave his estate. G. informs Pa that he will.....
