Chapter 6 Summary
Early one morning, G. and Bob leave their homes and walk through Belleville, the neighborhood where the white people live, on their way to the beach. This section of town is more structured with avenues and manicured lawns, and the boys can see the servants working behind the windows in the fine homes. As the boys continue to walk, G. is struck by the cloud formations in the early morning light unaware that Bob has raced on ahead, leaving G. alone when he finally reaches the beach.
G. finds Bob absorbed in his own activities and keeps his distance from G. who speculates that Bob is uncomfortable after having witnessed G. being flogged by his mother as punishment a few days ago.
