The school that G. attends is a two-story wooden structure with a palm tree on one corner and pebbles creating a schoolyard. In another corner of the area sits a stone church whose dark mystery frightens the boys. Twice a year the school supervisor comes to record attendance, give intelligence tests, and frighten the students and teachers in general. Conversely, when the supervising minister came to talk about the church's activities, no one seemed scared at all.
There are one thousand boys who attend the school; and as it is Queen Victoria's birthday, the boys are groomed for an inspection and celebration. Even the school is decked out in all sorts of flags, especially the British Union Jack.
