Chapters 21 and 22 Summary

Chapter 21: Masquerade

As Ana walks to the masquerade party, the brisk wind catches her wings. The market field is crowded with hundreds of costumed party goers. Meuric, dressed as a robin, announces the re-dedication celebration of two souls, Tera and Ash. He reminds the crowd that Janan created them to value and love one another. The music begins to play and the people begin to dance. Ana's costume is rather cumbersome so she keeps on the edge of the crowd although she feels people staring at her. Armande, dressed as a ferret, asks Ana to dance. Armande explains that Tera and Ash have always been matched mates but had killed each other in the past because they'd been the same gender - hoping they'd come back as opposite sexes. But finally they figured it didn't matter.
