The conflict in the story arises from a disturbed individual that stalks Gail. After watching her for some time, the stalker begins to write vulgar notes and leaves them for her in her locker at school. Gail's best friend, Alison, tells her to ignore the notes and pretend that it never happened, but the notes frighten Gail.
