Part 2: Chs. 10-18 Summary

Chapter 10

Thirty girls return to the Lawson Peabody school in January, and Jacky reunites with her friends and meets some new people. However, Jacky's nemesis, Clarissa Worthington Howe, is back also. Jacky and Clarissa exchange words and Clarissa heads off to speak with Pimm about Jacky. Clarissa is beautiful and wealthy and very snotty and unkind. She has brought a young slave girl to school with her and Jacky is horrified that she is allowed to have a slave in Massachusetts and at the school. Jacky remembers her last run-in with Clarissa at Amy's family ball. Clarissa convinced Jacky they would be friends and gave Jacky bourbon. Jacky ended up drunk and sick and the two of them got into a fist fight. Jacky still has a half-moon shaped scar on her arm from Clarissa's teeth.
