Summary

In Chapter 4, the group stops for a rest and Ruby notes some graffiti that looks familiar. Liam and Chubs recognize it as the code used at East River to show other kids safe routes and resting places. They find a second car for Liam, Chubs, and Vida, and Ruby takes a turn driving since Clancy is knocked out. Ruby becomes focused on the graffiti tags and is intrigued when she sees a series of initials that include Z. She is worried about a friend named Suzume – Zu for short – that was with them before Ruby joined the League. Ruby knows it is unlikely that this is a reference to Zu, but she sees “KLZH” (72) and knows it could be some children they know – Kylie, Lucy, Zu, and Hina.
