Summary

When Deven returns home, he finds that Sarla is there, cleaning up. When he says that she should have written to let him know she and Manu were coming home, she says she did, and points to the letter from her that he did not open. And then, when Deven asks where Manu is, she says that he has gone to show off his new clothes to his friends, the ones that her parents had bought him. Deven feels ashamed that he had not been able to provide for his son, and sits despairingly at the table. There, he finds more unopened mail, one letter addressed to him in handwriting that is unfamiliar. He opens it, and finds a letter written in Urdu from Imtiaz.
