Summary

The narration of the first part of this chapter focuses on an argument between Murad and Deven. Deven protests that he cannot give up his life and career in order to move to Delhi to be Nur’s secretary. He also blames Murad for telling Nur that that was something Deven was interested in, adding that he attempted to get the interview but was essentially turned away by Nur’s lifestyle. Murad argues that Deven is always afraid of taking a chance, and that he never told Nur that Deven wanted to be his secretary, only that Deven was there to interview him. As he repeatedly accuses Deven of always living his life safely, and as he suggests that all Deven needs to do is stand up for himself, Deven becomes increasingly upset.
