Reyna

Reyna is the central protagonist of the novel and the character who connects all the other narrative threads. She is in her twenties, white, tattooed, and sassy. She also a four-year-old, Oliver, whom she loves very much. Reyna lives in Harlem, New York and works as a secretary at a veterinary clinic. She is in love with her boyfriend, Boyd, and is very loyal to him while frequently visiting him while he is in jail for a minor offense.

Reyna's world is turned upside down when she makes a small decision that results in the death of their friend, Claude. Reyna refuses to drive the smuggling car needed for their operation.
