Chapter 8 Summary

As Smithy walks toward the high school with the other students, she realizes that she is running away again. Kate calls Smithy on her cell phone and as soon as Smithy picks up she starts apologizing to Kate. While Kate's intention was to yell and scream at Smithy, when he hears the despair in Smithy's voice, all Kate can do is say she loves her. Smithy asks Kate to pray for Tris and when they hang up, Kate goes into the school chapel to pray.

Diana is in chemistry class, which Jack is absent from. Diana knows that if Jack has Tris and is skipping school then something big is happening. Diana also knows that Jack must have Tris at the library since it is drizzling outside. Diana thinks back to when Smithy and she are still best friends and they find out...
