Admiral Petkov is driven to the Ice Station where he discovers level four has been penetrated, Grendels are loose, and two prisoners have escaped. He tells Captain Mikovsky to go to Omega, retrieve their personnel and ignite the buried charges to melt the base into the ocean. The survivors orient themselves in the lab, knowing the Grendel attack will only buy them a short reprieve. The lab has containers, all filled with human subjects, faces contorted in pain. Dr. Ogden explains that the Russians were seeking to imitate the Grendels form of cryogenics - immortality by hibernation. A soldier knocks and tells them to open the door or pay the price.
