Point of View

The Introduction is written in the first person, from the point of view of the Interviewer. Both the point of view and narrative style of the Introduction are repeated through the linking passages, the prologues and/or epilogues between the various stories.

All the chapters/stories themselves are told from the third person omniscient point of view. There are variations in focus, however - in other words, the thoughts and perspectives of every character are not given equal attention. In "Robbie," for example, Gloria and Mr. Weston are the particular focus of the narrative, although the thoughts and feelings of Mrs. Weston and Mr. Struthers are also examined, albeit in a much less extensive way. It's interesting to note how the actions and apparent attitudes of Robbie are described only from the point of view of those observing him.
