Summary

Dr. Calvin begins telling the reporter stories about her own experiences with robots. In her first story, Dr. Calvin tells the reporter about a robot that could read minds. Dr. Calvin is a part of a team that includes research department leader, Alfred Lanning, mathematician Peter Bogert, and Us Robot officer Milton Ashe. The team is trying to figure out how this anomaly came about. As their investigation progresses, each person spends time with the robot and asks it questions. This leads to Bogert asking the robot about Dr. Lanning’s future plans and whether or not he, Bogert, would become head of the research department. At the same time, Dr. Calvin asks the robot about Ashe and whether or not he could be in love with Dr. Calvin.
