Chapter Four, "Catch That Rabbit" Summary
Six months later, Donovan and Powell are posted on a mining asteroid, once again testing a new model of robot. This one is the DV-5, or "Dave," one of the multiple robots mentioned at the end of "Reason" with six subsidiary robots working not just under him, but with him. They are all linked by electronic waves emitted by their positronic "brains," an image likened by Powell to a brain (Dave) controlling the fingers of a hand (the subsidiaries). As was the case with other robots tested by Donovan and Powell, something has gone wrong with Dave and his "subsidiaries." For several days, they've returned from their mining shifts having dug no ore and with no recollection of why. As Powell and Donovan banter about why they always seem to be stuck with malfunctioning robots, they decide on the course of action to take, with Powell suggesting they go back...
