Simon has sent Cassandra a new blue and gold leather bound book and a fountain pen to go with it. Rose and Topaz have gone to stay with Mrs. Cotton for awhile in London to buy Rose's trousseau. Cassandra receives a letter from Neil telling her that the London flat is so crowded now that he is staying in a hotel.
