Chapter 5, The Detective's Tale, The Long Goodbye Summary

The crew wakes in the morning and finds breakfast, but Masteen is nowhere to be found. They find blood all over his room, and no notice that he has left. The group agrees to split up to search the ship and Masteen's belongings, hoping for clues to his disappearance. They find nothing except an erg that Masteen was hoping to use in defense against the Shrike. Silenus suggests the Shrike has begun harvesting them. Masteen would have told his story next. Lamia is after him, but she wants to wait until they are off of the boat to tell her story.

They reach Pilgrim's Rest, where they unload their belongings off the windship and enter a tramcar. Kassad is busy loading their last belongings from the windwagon as the tramcar begins...
