Prologue: 1-5 Summary

Prologue:

The story begins in the Loire Valley in France in 1565. Chauncey, the Duc de Langeais, leaves his girlfriend on the banks of the Loire. Chauncey gives the girl a silver buckle from his shoe and sends her on her way. The night is dark and the rain makes it hard to see. However, Chauncey grew up on the grounds and could easily find his way home. As he walks through a cemetery, he is approached and then accosted by a boy with who claims to be one of the Devil's brood. The boy demands that Chauncey do his bidding. Chauncey becomes enraged and defiant. The boy with wings tells Chauncey that he is a bastard and not the real Duc de Langeais. Chauncey's father was a fallen angel, making Chauncey a Nephilim.
