Spokane, Washington

The story is set in and around the city of Spokane, Washington, which has a population of about 200,000 people. The three main characters apparently live in Spokane, but on their hunting trip, they drive out of the city towards more wooded areas in order to hunter for dear. The story takes place in the winter, and the areas, cold weather and heavy snowfall present significant challenges for the main characters.

Farm and Wilderness

While tracking a deer through the woods, the three main characters eventually arrive at a large area of private farmland. They receive permission from the farmer to continue hunting the deer. While on the farmland, Tub shoots Kenny in self-defense, thinking that Kenny is about to shoot him.
