Summary

The three eventually arrive back near the farmer’s house. Kenny, to vent his anger, fires his rifle at a nearby wooden post and then at a nearby tree. Frank tells Kenny to stop. However, still angry, Kenny fires his rifle at an elderly, domesticated dog that is tied up on the property. The shot instantly kills the dog. Kenny then turns towards Tub and says that he hates him. It seems to Tub that Kenny is about to shoot him, so in self-defense, Tub shoots his rifle at Kenny. The shot hits Kenny’s stomach. Kenny collapses in pain and says that he had only been “kidding around” (26). Tub and Frank run to Kenny. Tub begins weeping. Frank suddenly vomits. Tub says that they should call an ambulance and tell them what happened. Kenny rejects the idea of saying that Tub shot him...
