The Red October is a Soviet nuclear submarine with a new experimental silent propulsion system that enables it to travel undetected by other submarines. It is named for the October Revolution that led to the creation of the Soviet Union in 1917. Captain Ramius is involved in all aspects of the construction of this submarine in order to use it to defect to the US.
