Chapters 12 and 13 Summary

Chapter 12

A troupe of monkeys make their way to the orchard. They are at first curious to see the strange being living in one of their trees. However, he partially wins the apes over by mimicking their behavior and sounds. After they observe all the food that surrounds this human, they decide to live adjacent to him which enables them to have scraps of more food than they could have ever imagined. The devotees are all amazed at how tame the monkeys have become in the presence of Sampath. Even Miss Jyotsna and Pinky—who had both been attacked by one of the monkeys—are stunned by the tame behavior of the once menacing creatures. "He has charmed the monkey!"
