Paterson is a city in New Jersey with a population of about 150,000 people. It is located about 20 miles northwest of New York City. Paterson is the city of residence for Yunior and his family. They moved there after immigrating to the United States from the Dominican Republic. Yunior and his family live in a low-rent apartment in Paterson, and all of the action described in the story takes place in the Paterson neighborhood where Yunior and his family reside.
