In Search of Lost Time

In Search of Lost Time is Marcel Proust's masterpiece of French literature. It is a novel in seven volumes. It is one of the longest novels ever written. An alternate title for the novel is Remembrance of Things Past.

Marquis de Lau was a well-known member of French social circles whom Proust was acquainted with. Proust claimed that in a painting by Domenico Ghirlandio, called the Old Man and the Boy, he saw the Marquis de Lau as the "Old Man."
