Chapters 22, 23 and 24 Summary

When Madelyne arrives at her Uncle Berton's house, she tells him everything. It takes two days to do the telling and Berton questions her about the details. She puts it down to the fact that he's a storyteller and wants to know the entire history of her ordeal. By the third day, Madelyne is concerned about Duncan. She'd expected him to arrive before then. Berton hears "thunder" and steps to the door to find more than a hundred soldiers. He knows this must be Duncan but takes his seat without saying so to Madelyne. He then tells her that he thinks they have company and she goes to the door to find Duncan and the soldiers. Duncan says simply that he's come for her.
