When Madelyne goes downstairs later for dinner, Adela is concerned about her injuries. Then Gerald offers Adela a compliment and she is rude to him. Duncan then says that he wants to talk to them both. He informs Adela that she's to allow Gerald to kiss her. He says that Madelyne had turned to Duncan after the imposter priest attacked her in order to wipe him memory from her mind and body. He now wants Adela to allow Gerald the opportunity to wipe the memories of the rape away. Their kiss is tentative at first, then becomes lingering while Madelyne tries not to look at them.
