Chapters 10, 11 and 12 Summary

A soldier named Anthony is assigned the task of protecting Madelyne. She calls him her "shadow," and he accompanies her whenever she's outside. Madelyne asks Duncan if she can "feed the animals" and he agrees. She promptly begins taking a bag of meat scraps and bones to the hill where she'd seen the wolf. When Duncan finds that she was outside the castle, he's angry but both Madelyne and Anthony remind him that he gave her permission. Madelyne tells him that she's feeding "my wolf," though she admits that it might be a very large dog.

Madelyne also begins making regular trips to the stables. The stable master is James, Maude's husband. Their four-year-old son, William, is always anxious for Madelyne's attention. James loudly objects to Madelyne's visits but she.....
