Chapter 19 Summary

As Bilbo and Gandalf head toward home, they stop for a time in Rivendell with Elrond and the elves there. Bilbo hears many stories of old. It is restful and pleasant, and Bilbo almost feels he could stay there forever. Eventually, though, his heart aches for home. On the road home, Bilbo remembers the gold of the trolls, and they recover that. Bilbo finally returns home, only to find that his relatives are auctioning off his belongings and that he is presumed dead. Some of them never do believe it is really him. He is permitted back in his hobbit hole, although the hobbits all seem to be suspicious of him. Many of them seem to think him a little crazy. After all, he is a friend of elves and dwarves and wizards......
