Chapter 10 Summary

The river empties into Long Lake and Bilbo sees the Lonely Mountain. He's not so sure all of a sudden that he wants to be here. In the middle of the lake is built a city of men, Lake-town. Bilbo manages to free the dwarves from the barrels while the men go to feast.

The company goes into the town and Thorin announces that he, the king of the dwarves and descendent of the great kings of old, has returned. He asks to be taken to the master. Since songs and legends have lived on in Lake-town of the great gold and wealth of those long ago days, the men welcome the dwarves and Bilbo.

The Elvenking's raftsmen, who brought the barrels the last ways down the river, object saying that this band of dwarves.....
