Chapter 4 Summary

Bilbo's group is now crossing the mountains. A horrible storm comes up, with the stone giants throwing stones and lightning crashing all around. They send the two youngest dwarves, Fili and Kili, to search out better shelter. The two are not gone long, having found a cave. Gandalf asks if they explored it thoroughly so that they know it is safe. Fili and Kili say they did, although their haste in returning might suggest otherwise. So the whole group goes into the cave and explores it by the light of Gandalf's wand. They smoke and blow smoke rings, talk, and drop off to sleep.

Bilbo has a nightmare about the cave walls opening up and the floor of the cave giving way. He wakes up to find that part of his nightmare is truea.....
