Summary

Chapter 10: In 1970, Jean decided to leave Donald. Don planned and tried to execute a murder-suicide but it failed. Don was arrested and then admitted to the Colorado State Hospital in Pueblo (referred to as "Pueblo"), where contemporary treatments included shock therapy, solitary confinement, and drugs with negative side effects. Don was released after six weeks and returned to live with his parents. Donald's behavior continued to be erratic and at times violent. Margaret and Mary would often lock themselves in their parents' bedroom and Donald was frequently taken away by the police, only to return to the family home again.

Chapter 11: The second-youngest child Margaret internalized the conflicts between her brothers and was often their target. With Donald living at home, every day brought potential stressors and incidents. One day, Donald pulled a knife on Mimi before some of the younger boys...
