Virgil Salinas (Turtle / Virgilio)

Virgil is the narrative’s main character. He has a crush on Valencia. Chet bullies him. Kaori is his friend and psychic adviser. At the beginning of the narrative, Virgil is very shy. He is so shy that his parents call him Turtle as he does not come out of his shell. He does not feel as if he fits in with his athletic brothers and his mother and his father. He feels isolated from others, and his silence creates a communication barrier. Virgil feels a special connection with his grandmother who gives him advice through the stories she tells. Still, he faces a communication barrier with her as well because he cannot share his feeling with her.
