Carl finds strange sticky matter interfering with the comet's plumbing and ventilation system. He goes to Nicolas and finds him arguing with Saul. He is stunned to learn that Captain Cruz has died suddenly from a fever. Virginia is with them. Nicolas Malenkov insists that they slot him and study the samples they have of his illness, because it might be possible to bring him back to life if a cure is developed. Saul wants to return to his lab to study the sickness with more samples, but Malenkov insists that he be slotted as well, since he is clearly sick. Carl intervenes finally. He's acting officer in the situation and stops Malenkov from forcing Saul into a sleep slot. He reports the...
