Summary

Jilly pulls her head out of the oven, feeling too hot; the gas pilot light had made it uncomfortable, plus she did not want to burn “her new auburn sew-in weave” (107). She then posts a note on Facebook, offering “a final peace out / before I end it all” (107). The narration lists the number and quality of her Facebook friends and her Instagram followers, describing how obsessed she is with the number of likes, or other sorts of approval, her various posts gets.

Jilly thinks about the likes her posting has received, wondering whether it is too mysterious. Urgent-sounding texts from her mother suggest that it is not, but the texts are not the kind of responses she wants, so she puts her phone in the microwave, a habit she had developed to keep herself from checking it too often.
