Devadatta

Devadatta is one of the main characters. Devadatta is the son of a Brahmin, which makes him a member of the Brahmin caste, which is the highest possible caste in India. Devadatta was born to be a Brahmin just like his father, but he is more brilliant and intellectually accomplished than his father or any other wise man in the city of Dharmapura.

Devadatta is fair-haired and has beautiful facial features. His body is thin and soft, and his hands are feminine because he never does any hard labor and spends all his time reading books. He is a bit of a romantic and is always falling in love with pretty girls he sees. When he sees Padmini, though, his infatuation is taken to new levels and he vows to cut off his arms and head in order to marry her.
