Harry is the hero of the tale. His parents were murdered at the hands of Voldemort when Harry was a baby. He bears a scar on his forehead from the attack but somehow managed to survive. The central conflict of the novel revolves around Voldemort's desire to obtain an orb containing a prophecy that foretells the battle between Voldemort and a child with the power to destroy him. It is assumed that the boy is Harry, though Neville Longbottom also fit the initial criteria.
