Chapter 38 "The Second War Begins" Summary

Harry visits Ron and Hermione in the hospital wing as they recover from their injuries, Hermione reading aloud pieces from the Sunday Prophet. The front page proclaims Voldemort's return and the desertion of the dementors. It celebrates the restoration of Dumbledore's numerous positions, as well as Harry's honor and credibility. Things have returned to normal in the school and both Hagrid and Professor McGonagall have returned in good health. Dumbledore even manages to retrieve Umbridge from the Forbidden Forest, though she seems to have been permanently affected by the experience.

Not wanting to talk about Sirius, Harry finds himself avoiding people whenever possible. Harry runs into Draco Malfoy and his boys in the hallway and Malfoy swears he will have revenge on Harry for what has happened to Malfoy's father......
